Although our beginning wasn't quite so glorious here's how it all began...
Following the success of the first Youth Ministry Network's Extravaganza of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) there was felt a need to bring something closer to the east coast. So Regions 7,8 and 9 got together for the first event.
In March 1998 over 100 youth leaders assembled for the first Gathering in the East in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. While there they participated in many workshops throughout the weekend to help them develop and hone their skills as "missionaries" to the youth culture.
They also enjoyed keynote speaker Dr. Rollie Martinson and a message from the Bishop of the Lower Susquehanna Synod - Guy Edmiston. The music was brought to us by the four member band Echelon.
It was the first in what has become a premier training and networking event for anyone involved in youth ministry. Since the first event 7 years ago we've been to Pittsburgh, Hunt Valley, Maryland, Harrisburg, PA, Mount Laurel, NJ, the Poconos and Westminster, MD.
