In-depth theological education

Dr. Rick Carlson from the Theological Seminary at Gettysburg will be presenting 3 different workshops throughout the event. More details coming soon.

  1. Paul and the Cruciform Life
  2. Paul on the Spiritual Life
  3. Interpreting the Bible for Our Lives and Mission

Presenter: Rev. Dr. Rick Carlson's field of study and teaching is particularly in the New Testament. His goal in the classroom and in his own research involves bringing the message of scripture to people's lives in ways which are both revelatory and relevant. For him the twin questions for New Testament study are: 1) What did this portion of Scripture mean in its original context? 2) What does this portion of Scripture mean in the context of the church's mission and in our lives today?

Teaching theology with youth

Presenter: Chandler Carriker from Theological School With Youth.

A Biblical Overview

A Biblical Overview~ a storied approach to biblical literacy." and "Bible reading as Prayer".

Presenter: Pastor Matt Lenahan (First things first.) Matt is married to the beautiful and talented Cherie.  They have two boys; 4 year old Jonah and 22 month -old Luke.  They live in Lititz, PA.  Now for the “credentials”.   Matt is the Pastor at Zion Lutheran in Akron, a small town congregation near Ephrata, Lancaster County.  He has served there for nearly 3 years.  A Gettysburg Seminary graduate, Matt was ordained in 2001.  His passions are evangelism, outdoor ministry, multigenerational worship, local and global mission, reading, and golf.  He likes to sing, play the guitar, or bang on a drum.  He’s never been west of the Grand Canyon, east of Manhattan, south of Puerto Rico, or north of Toronto.  He loves brownies and milk anytime.  He’s trying to follow Jesus.  He fails a lot.

Pastor Matt will also be leading a Friday workshop on Contemplative Prayer.

 The Brady Bunch Retreat

Often retreats are held for specific age groups or gender but they can also be held for entire families. This workshop will discuss holding a family retreat. Families need time to get away together and worship God together for an extended period. From publicity to the closing worship, you'll get an idea how to format & plan a family retreat.

Presenter: Danielle Seibert - She is Director for Youth Ministries at Ascension Lutheran, Willow Street, PA and is an alumni of Gettysburg Seminary's Youth and Family Ministry Certification School, class of 2005. She has served as a small group leader for numerous synod events and is on the planning team for her synod's annual Leadership Training Camp. She has been trained by the ELCA to provide workshops for congregations ministering to those with disabilities, and has prepared and led several family retreats at her current congregation.

Proclaim the Gospel always

A round table discussion on how youth ministry professionals can responsibly engage in online communities. If you are curious about MySpace and Facebook, but have been scared off by media and parents this workshop is for you. The reality is that youth are using these services, if we as youth ministry professionals are not responsibly engaged in these communities we aren't influencing that use.

Presenter: Jacob Smith - He started working with youth as a camp counselor at Harrisburg Conference Confirmation Camp as a Junior in High School. Since then Jacob has been blessed to work on the ELCA National Youth Gathering in
2000, 2003 and 2006 and in the Metro DC Synod. Jacob has been called to work with technology in ministry and is pursuing that calling at Silas
Partners, a Washington D.C. based consulting firm. He currently resides in Springfield, VA with his wife Erin.

Our Neighbor's Faith
